Ford Racing Puma 1400 Rally Championship

Puma ChampionshipThe Ford Racing Puma 1400 Rally Championship was launched in 2001. A number of Puma 1400's competed in the 2000 Irish Championship and a variety of other events, both in the UK and International. Following this success the 1400 Rally Championship was introduced.

The Championship included both tarmac and gravel events and the 1400's competed in the new Rally Master Series alongside the official factory entered Puma 1600 kit cars.

The car was constructed along kit car lines to assist independent builders to purchase a kit of parts and build the 1400 Puma with minimum specialist knowledge. Weight was controlled to ensure a level playing field.Power output was 150 BHP from the 4 cylinder, 16valve, 1396cc engine. The transmission used a close ratio 6 speed gearbox. The Puma had 280mm ventilated discs at the front with rear solid discs and a hydraulic handbrake.

Engine:

  • Zetec SE All alloy
  • 4 cylinder, 16 valve, 1396cc (Bore/Stroke 80 x 69.4mm)
  • Electronic Pectel T2+ Engine Management System
  • Variable Valve Timing
  • Steel crankshaft, wet sump lubrication

Power:

  • 150 BHP

Transmission:

  • Front wheel drive via 6 speed close ratio gearbox with dog
  • Engagement in production IB5 gear casing

Front Suspension:

  • MacPherson struts with adjustable spring platforms, aluminium wishbones. Dampers with external reservoirs. Production anti-roll bar.

Rear Suspension:

  • Modified production trailing arm beams. Dampers with external reservoirs.

Front Brakes:

  • 280mm ventilated discs with single piston Ford calipers

Rear Brakes:

  • Solid discs with 2 piston Ford calipers. Hydraulic handbrake. Assistance via standard servo with pressure limiting valve to rear brakes.

Steering:

  • Standard power assisted rack and pinion.

Wheels & Tyres:

  • Tarmac: 17 x 7 shod with control tyres
  • Gravel: 15 x 6 shod with control tyres

Bodyshell:

  • Welded steel safety roll cage

Fuel Tank:

  • 40 litre capacity standard tank located under rear seat.
